The UK has a bigger online retail market than anywhere in the world, according to a report commissioned by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Forward2me, the UK’s first dedicated international parcel and package forwarding service, has read a new report which has uncovered how much the UK leads the world in the online marketplace.

Over the next four years it is predicted the UK internet retail sector will grow by 11%, increasing the total value of the national economy by 16% to £221 bn. This is almost double the estimates for the US and Chinese economies.

Forward2me sends items bought from UK retailers to destinations all over the world and is best placed to observe this trend.

While it’s clear that UK consumers have a fondness for online buying, online shoppers from outside the UK are buying British more than ever before, none more so than American consumers. Their love for all things quintessentially British at the moment is huge with online retailers such as notonthehighstreet.com and amazon.co.uk seeing records sales from across the ocean.

The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) found the internet contributed 8.3% (£121 bn) to the UK economy in 2010, which represents an average of £2,000 per person. Commentators are confident this will provide some welcome news to small to medium sized web-based companies, which can now look to grow in spite of the UK’s economic woes.

Forward2me enables consumers from outside of the UK to take advantage of the prices and availability of UK goods as well as cutting out the cost of expensive international shipping options. Forward2me is currently serving all EU countries plus the majority of the rest of the world with a few notable exceptions.

For more information on how to obtain a Forward2me UK postal address and for all the details on their forwarding service visit http://www.forward2me.com.

Piciscan announce new discounted rates on their photo scanning services.

It’s been a little while now since PiciScan started offering discounts for bulk orders. For customers using our negative scanning and slide scanning services, the points at which the two different discounts offered kicks in has always been the same.

For those just wanting their photos scanning, however, they have had to send in rather more to get the discounts. That is, up until now.

From today onwards, the great discounts offered on the Piciscan photo scanning service are in line with those offered for the slide and negative scanning services.

That is, if you 200 photos are required to be scanned, customers will now receive a discount of 20%. For orders with more of more than 400 photos, customers will receive 40% off. An order of 200 photos previously cost £40.00, and an order for 400 photos £80.00. The new discounted rates however mean a 200 photo scanning order costs just £32 and a 400 photo order only costs £48. That’s a price cut of £8 and £32, respectively!

Why have they done this? Well, to put simply, they are listening to their customers. It is what people have been asking for for a little while, so now they’re doing something about it.

Piciscan digitise slides, photos and negatives using state of the art machines. Slides and negatives are scanned at the stunning resolution of 2400 dpi and photos at 600 dpi and every order comes complete with a personalised disc.

This is not a sale on photo scanning introduced just for Easter, these are the new price points at Piciscan. Visit Piciscan’s website at http://piciscan.co.uk/ for further details on all of their services.

Employment law specialist and health and safety advisor Bibby Consulting & Support had a record sales month in October – its best month in nearly four years.

At the same time, the Newcastle-under-Lyme Company has created a number of new posts over the last few months, including a head of projects, Steven Attwood, to manage long-term in-house investments in systems and processes, and a dedicated training manager, Jon Hughes, to further expand their training services.

A key factor in Bibby Consulting & Support’s growth has been its continued expansion into major target markets such as care homes and franchising. Major contract wins from big names like Select Healthcare and the Domino’s Pizza Group have reflected the increasing demand for the company’s expertise in specific market sectors.
Understanding the needs of a sector and being able to deliver skills and solutions that have been refined over the years are the main reasons Bibby Consulting & Support has seen such impressive growth, according to Managing Director Michael Slade.

“By specialising, we have been able to show that we can clearly provide our client base with a level of service and support that is specific to their business needs,” he says. “As a result, confidence is very high within the company and we are achieving all of our goals.”

As well as supporting customers, Bibby Consulting & Support has put long-term investment into its own staff. This includes a programme of having all of its Tele-marketing team in Newcastle under Lyme accompany field sales people to gain a deeper understanding of customer’s needs. The company has also provided funding and support to enable staff to secure further qualifications. This has included training courses for people within support functions, as well as studies leading to qualifications for client facing staff, through the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

“We see this as succession planning,” says Slade. “We have some very gifted individuals who, having initially joined the business via the Tele-marketing team, have then gone onto use their degrees to great effect within other departments, such as our Business Improvement function or others who have qualified in specific areas of Employment Law to help run our indemnity activity. We see investment in staff as a great way to prepare the next generation. Whilst some businesses are cutting training budgets, we believe investment in our people is exactly what is needed to create a successful business.”

Bibby Consulting & Support’s parent company the Bibby Line Group has once again won a National Business Award 2011 in partnership with Orange. The judges said: “Demonstrating that a large and diverse business can deliver consistent growth with family values at its core, Bibby Line Group has demonstrated a recognised commitment to staff, and ethical practice has been driven by strong leadership and management.” Slade concludes: “If you are recognised as a good company to work you will attract the best people and that’s vitally important to ensure we continue to provide a top quality service to our customers.”

Healthcare interiors whether within nursing homes, care homes or just waiting rooms should be carefully thought out and furnished.

Using a company that specialises in this very specific sector of interior design is a must. The healthcare industry is demanding and it is vitally important that the correct products are selected to suit your project needs be they Care Home, Nursing Home, Village, Hospice or Hospitals.

The interiors of nursing and care homes require a varied range of furnishings, interior design styles and thought. Nursing home furniture can come in the form of as small a detail as occasional tables right through to sofas, suites and beds.

A healthcare furniture specialist will have to create interiors, supply and fit the furniture in all the rooms of the nursing or care home facility. That will start with the reception through to dining areas, lounges and other communal areas, bedrooms, cleaning and laundry areas and even office and meetings rooms for staff and managers.

Creating the right interior in a care or nursing home is paramount both for the inhabitants and the staff. Fortunately there are some very forward thinking care and nursing homes being built and renovated across the country. Light, bright and airy are the orders of the day. Areas for specific patients such as dementia units providing purpose built care furniture and care home equipment specifically designed to aid dementia needs which include memory boxes and themed artwork.

The latest in care facility buildings are being created with a feel of a luxury hotel rather than a care home. These facilities have for example a series of suites each catering for a different type of resident through to apartment rooms and even executive wings with dedicated dementia and high dependency suites, all of which have a feel of luxury and more importantly, a feel of home through the clever use of healthcare furniture and equipment. It is these attributes that make for far better living spaces for patients and help prospective families and patients in choosing care home options.

Nadcap (the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) recognizes Precision Polymer Engineering for its quality systems and manufacturing processes to the Aerospace industry.

High performance rubber seals manufacturer, Precision Polymer Engineering (PPE), a Unit of IDEX Corp., is the first manufacturer of its kind outside the Americas to receive Nadcap accreditation for the production of its elastomer rubber seals and o rings.

Nadcap is the highest standard accreditation awarded to suppliers to the aerospace industry and provides an assurance of quality and integrity in component manufacture. Accreditation is awarded only after a rigorous audit of an organization’s quality and manufacturing systems. The audit covers processes throughout the business; from raw materials, tooling and manufacturing, to inspection, packaging and dispatch.

“This accreditation is a great achievement for PPE and reflects our commitment to quality and continuous improvement in all aspects of our business”’ says Paul Gillyon, PPE managing director, “I believe it shows PPE once again taking a clear lead in aiming for the highest global standards of quality in elastomer rubber seals and o rings manufacture”.

“Achieving Nadcap accreditation is not easy: it is one of the ways in which the aerospace industry identifies those who excel at manufacturing quality product through superior special processes. Companies such as Precision Polymer Engineering work hard to obtain this status and they should be justifiably proud of it,” said Joe Pinto, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Performance Review Institute. “PRI is proud to support continual improvement in the aerospace industry by helping companies such as PPE be successful and we look forward to continuing to assist the industry moving forward.”

Invoice Finance has become the most popular choice for small, medium and large businesses to fund their working capital. It is easy and hassle free to set up with the Financial Institution taking the companies invoices and debt ledger as direct security.

It is one of the most effective and flexible funding methods available, as the facility grows with your business. Additional features can be added including customer credit checking, credit control management and debt protection.

Invoice Finance is the term given to a range of services designed to provide working capital and improved cash flow by advancing finance against newly generated unpaid invoices. It is a great way to provide flexible working capital as the finance facility has the ability to grow with the sales of your business; there are two main Invoice Finance products.

Invoice Factoring has the ability to advance up to 95% of the unpaid invoice value. The credit control is normally undertaken by the Financial Institution offering the facility but a few providers offer the option for the business to carry out their own debt collection process to reduce costs for this part of the service.

It allows your business to advance funds on invoices waiting to be paid by your customers which as you probably already know in the current climate can take some time and can represent up to two or three months sales depending on your credit terms. This means you can unlock precious working capital to fund new orders, business expansion or mergers and acquisitions, while the finance provider controls the sales ledger and collects all the outstanding debts on behalf of the company.

Invoice Discounting allows your business to raise up to 90% of outstanding invoice values immediately similar to Factoring but you remain in complete control of the collection of any outstanding debts from your customers. The invoice discounting facility is completely confidential between your business and the provider and is not disclosed to any other party, giving you peace of mind that your customers will be none the wiser.

The Key Benefits to Invoice Finance

•Immediate access to up to 95% of unpaid invoice values
•Improved cash flow for the business
•Free up working capital to reinvest and grow the business
•Allows you to get on with running the business
•Provides access to credit facilities and credit control management

While the high street banks are restricting financing for business loans and overdrafts, invoice finances two main products – invoice factoring and invoice discounting will continue to fill this cash flow need and ultimately expand or replace the banks role with SME and Corporate business finance.

There are some important factors to consider before installation of a woodburning and multifuel stove.

What do I do first if I plan to fit a new stove?
If you planning to use an existing chimney it is recommended that you first have a ‘NACS’ registered sweep to sweep it. At the same time they will inspect and test your chimney to ensure that it draws and it doesn’t leak. Your installer will then be able to decide if your chimney needs re-lining.

What Size Stove Do I Need To Heat My Room?
There are two elements to consider when choosing your stove:
1) Physical Dimensions – Is there enough room for the stove to function and conform to building regulations.
2) Output – Do you have the right amount of heat for the room?

Height
You should ensure the top of the stove is around 22″ from any combustible material such as wooden lintels or beams. It is wise to check with the manufacturer of the stove you are interested in as the distanced advised may vary. If the top flue outlet is used, he height listed does not include the flue collar.

Width
Check that the stove will fit in the narrowest width of your fireplace if you are using one. If you decide on an inglenook, it is recommended that you have at least 150mm (6″) space either side of the appliance, although slightly for smaller output stoves this may be reduced. This is not a building regulation, but is necessary for the heat from the sides of the stove to enter the room and to protect against heat build up.

Depth
It is important to ensure you have the regulation 300mm (12″) of the hearth in front of the front legs of the Stovax stove once installed. You will also need a 50mm (2″) gap at the back of the stove. If you are planning to use the rear outlet, this will add around an extra 160mm.

Output
To achieve a room temperature of approximately 21ºC when the outside temperature is at 0ºC you will need around 1kW of heat output for every 14 cubic meters of space.
Measure the length, width and height of your room in meters, multiply the three figures together and divide the product by 14.

Factors such as the number of outside walls, the size of windows and whether they are double glazed, the age of the home etc, can all influence the heat requirement. It is generally recommended that you should buy a lower output stove and burn it at full capacity rather than a larger stove which is too big for the room and has to be burnt lower.

What is Seasoned Wood?
Seasoned wood is wood that has been allowed to dry out, normally for at least a year after having been cut down. Ideally logs should have a moisture content below 20%. This will give twice the heat output of freshly cut timber and will avoid a build-up of tar in your flue.

Can I burn coal and wood at the same time?
It is not recommended to burn both coal and wood together. Moisture in the wood combines with the sulfuric acid from burning coal and can create a very acidic solution which can erode its way through even the toughest liners over time.

As wood needs air from above and coal from below, this makes any simultaneous burning very inefficient and wastes the potential energy your fuel may provide.

Which are best, steel or cast iron stoves?
Steel and cast iron stoves don’t really differ in output, just how they give the heat out – a cast iron stove takes longer to heat up and will retain its heat for longer than the steel.

What is the difference between Wood Burning and Multifuel Stoves?
Externally, wood burning and multifuel stoves may look the same, but inside they are very different.

Multifuel stoves allow air from a grate at the bottom of the stove to operate as the primary air inlet. This is necessary to burn solid fuels other than wood. Most have a riddling grate which allows the ash will fall into the ash pan which sits beneath the grate. The ash pan is the second main difference between a multifuel and a wood burning stove. It catches the ash that falls through the grate and which can then be removed from the stove.

Stoves designed to burn wood only have a flat surface inside the stove which allows the wood to burn in a bed of ash, which is the best way to burn wood effectively. Some wood burning stoves such as Morso stoves have small static grates simply for ease of cleaning.

High performance seals specialist, Precision Polymer Engineering, a Unit of IDEX Corp., is announcing its latest developments in ultra-high temperature and extreme low temperature resistant Perlast perfluoroelastomer and Endura seals for HP/HT/LT offshore applications, at Offshore Europe on Stand No. 3E80.

For continuous use at high temperatures, without loss of mechanical performance, PPE has developed perfluoroelastomer Perlast G75TX for processes up to 327°C (621°F), together with fluoroelastomer V91J for continuous exposure at 250°C (482°F). Overcoming the traditional weakness of perfluoroelastomers at low temperature, all-round sealing performer Perlast G92E is now capable of sub-zero operation down to -30°C (-22°F) at pressures up to 5,500psi.

Endura seals for demanding applications
The Endura range of oilfield elastomers has been specifically developed by PPE for use in downhole, surface and subsea oilfield equipment and offers excellent rapid gas decompression (RGD) resistance. Many of the Endura materials have been tested to international RGD standards such as NORSOK, TOTAL and NACE. Over the past 25 years, PPE has supplied O rings and custom seals for systems operating in the most inhospitable subsea environments in the world at temperatures from -46°C (-51°F) up to +327°C (+621°F).

PPE has sales offices in Aberdeen, the US (Houston), Europe and Asia, in addition to extensive manufacturing and technical development resources at the company’s Blackburn facility in Lancashire.

PPE is a world leading designer and manufacturer of high performance sealing solutions. The company’s elastomers product range is used in many demanding manufacturing environments around the world. Applications as varied as semi-conductor manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceuticals, marine engineering and power generation benefit from PPE’s innovative, robust and reliable sealing solutions.

Week off work…check, beautiful vistas required, the English Lake District…check, want to see as much as possible, camper van…check!

With such vast, varied and breathtaking scenery as in the Lake District, it is far too difficult a task choosing one destination for a holiday or short break. Great driving roads+breathtaking scenery=the perfect recipe for camper vans.

Camper vans give you:
The opportunity to visit and experience numerous locations in one trip.
Give you the freedom to stop off when and where you like and for what duration.
No need to worry about there not being a hotel or guest house available in the area.
You are protected from the elements unlike camping.

You’ll never tire of driving on the roads in the Lake District and Cumbria which has some of the most scenic roads in England. In particular, Hartside Pass which The AA and Top Gear list in their top 10 driving roads in England. Other great driving roads include the Kirkstone Pass, the A591 which passes through Ambleside, Grasmere and onto Keswick and not for the faint hearted Hardnott and Wrynose passes.
VW camper vans are particularly suited to the roads in the Lake District. They are compact and allow you to drive on the stunning, narrow roads which other, larger camper van and mobile homes would not be able to.

Camper vans have seen a renaissance in recent years both in terms of new camper vans and mobile homes but especially the popularity of the classic VW camper van. Their iconic status continues to grow and excite young and old. Driving around in the VW camper van is guaranteed to turn heads and makes a holiday even more special.

A mobile holiday is the ultimate in economical holidaying. The cost of parking up on a camping or caravanning site is nominal and sometimes areas can be found that are free. You can self cater as much of the meals as you wish although the Lake District has some fantastic eating houses that really should be visited.

Many people simply can’t justify purchasing a VW camper van for themselves due to lack of annual leave and other commitments. A camper van has to be used regularly both for economy and for the wellbeing of the van. The perfect solution is in the form of hiring. VW camper van hire is now available in the Lake District and enables those who want to experience a camper van holiday but that do not want to purchase one. Volkswagen camper van hire is also great for those thinking of purchasing a van to gain knowledge of driving one. Lake District VW camper hire, sorted.

Dee began her career as a graphic designer working in design studios for over 10 years. She began printmaking 3 years ago and is now a full time print maker hand printing all her own work from her small printmaking studio in the Peak District Derbyshire.

Many things including nature, animals and plant forms inspire her work. She also loves the pattern and colour of vintage Scandinavian folk art that is often reflected in her work.

At the moment most of her prints are produced on a Japanese Print Gocco. Print Gocco is small self-contained tabletop screen-printing machine first produced in Japan in the 1970s. The process is very similar to screen-printing and at one time a Print Gocco was found in most Japanese homes.

Dee has exhibited in a small selection of UK galleries and currently has a selection of her prints published on note cards by Attic Art Publishing London.

Design Supremo supply limited edition prints, art posters, wall art and screen prints.

Citypadz, one of the north east’s leading property letting agents, has revamped its online marketing strategy.

The new marketing strategy has been as part of a strategic move to raise their profile with audiences across the region and in the rest of the UK.
The agency’s revitalised marketing approach has seen it redesign its website to improve reader experience and included the development of a presence across social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

These changes reflect the organic growth of the company over the last year, which has seen it expand its property portfolio to cater to the whole of the North East. Running alongside this the team at Citypadz has seen an increase in contracts for investors and landlords based out of the region as well as working with corporate companies and individuals on relocation packages.

Citypadz, managing director Mike Brown said: “As we grow our reach across the region and beyond it is critical that we have a website that is easily accessible and a good source of information.

“Our properties are already linked to all the major property portals including rightmove.co.uk and findaproperty.co.uk, but with the explosion of social media over the last few years, we felt it was important to strengthen our online presence and engage with customers on a number of different levels.”
The new site provides a platform for users to search for properties as well as providing a wealth of advice and guidance on legal and logistical issues to prospective tenants and new landlords.

Citypadz Newcastle lettings has not, however, forgotten its existing customers. A new interactive ‘live chat’ function has been incorporated into the site to ensure that maintenance issues can be dealt with in real time.

Mike continued: “We are really pleased with our new website, which now adequately reflects our position in the market and offers a good baseline from which to raise our brand profile.

“It is an exciting time at Citypadz as we grow our services and focus expansion.”

Kino Creative was brought on board to redesign and develop the site.

Industrial Steel Partitions and steel partitioning are easily overlooked as a solution to your office needs.

Steel partitions provide a tough yet flexible way of dividing your workplace as an alternative to more traditional stud and board or block-built partitioning systems.

Just as modern building techniques trend towards prefabricated buildings, the industrial steel partition and steel partitioning sections are created (and painted to the colour of your choice) in a factory. They arrive ready-made and are simply bolted to existing industrial steel partitioning wall panels on site, in situ. No wet trades, no plasterboard dust and no decorators – it’s simple, quick and easy. You’ll hardly know installation has ever happened (well, other than the fact that you have new great looking offices made from our steel partitions ready to use).

Industrial steel partitioning is highly flexible and offers the following benefits:
o Double skinned steel partitioning can be fire rated to one hour and beyond.
o Industrial steel partition walls can be used to divide tall buildings, in excess of 10m, with proven balustrade loadings on the edge of mezzanine floors. Steel partitions are strong and resilient to damage.
o Half glazed, fully glazed, double glazed, wire glass, toughened glass and pyroc glass options are all available in our steel partitions.
o Industrial partitions can be painted to match your corporate colours.
o Creates dust-free, easy wipe down Cleanrooms environments manufactured off site in steel partitioning.
o Industrial steel partitions can take ceiling spans from roof sections in excess of 7 metres.

Single Skin Steel Partitioning
Ideal for cost-effective enclosures of superior strength and stability. This is an economic heavy duty single skin steel partition system with superb strength and adaptability. Its robust angle frame makes it the ideal choice for creating a highly secure perimeter around any area. The steel partitions panels can be multi-tiered to create a truly demountable system that is ideal for any dynamic workspace.

Double Skin Steel Partitioning
Double skin steel office or factory steel partitioning offers a versatile attractive appearance for the working environment, ideal for offices, classrooms, food areas and cleanrooms. Panels can be supplied in a fully fire-rated version to BS 476: Part 22 1987. Noise reduction capabilities can also be offered. This type of industrial steel partition is offered with a full range of proprietary suspended ceilings with tiles that cover the full spectrum of textures and styles, and can be a cost effective answer to your space management.

Cleanroom Construction – from Steel Partitions.
Cleanrooms consist of many parts including the steel partitions, air handling system, furniture and flooring. The level to which staff clean down before entering – their overalls and the number of air changes per hour also affect the environment. For a cleanroom to be certified to a specified standard, all components must lend themselves to that level of cleanliness.

Together with the cleanliness of staff and overalls, air handling is one of the most important elements within a cleanroom. The two main categories of airflow – laminar and non-laminar. Non-laminar systems are cost effective and typically used for classes 100,000 to class 1000. Laminar systems give better performance by pushing particles through a perforated raised floor and hence can be used for classes 100 to 1 of cleanrooms.

Mesh Partitioning
Mesh steel partitioning systems are ideal for sub-dividing storage areas, creating secure storage for hazardous and / or high value goods, bonded storage, or for segregating electrical controls.

Free Standing & Movable Industrial Steel Partitioning
Completely moveable industrial steel partitioning system designed for separating welding areas and shielding other areas in a factory environment. Both solid steel partitions and vision panel options are supplied in black as standard. Vision panels are available as laminated glass, toughened glass or polycarbonated. All vision panels can be fitted with a UV filter to significantly reduce the amount of harmful light transferred through the glass.

Bibby Consulting and Support compliance specialists, respond to the government’s ‘Red Tape Challenge’.

Reducing red tape for businesses can only be a good thing, compliance specialist Bibby Consulting & Support has said in response to claims that the government’s ‘Red Tape Challenge’ might actually mean more work for companies as opposed to less.

The Business Secretary, Vince Cable, has revealed that many visitors to the ‘Red Tape Challenge’ website have called for existing regulations to be maintained or even increased. The suggestion is that fewer regulations could mean diluted rights and protections, particularly in health & safety.

Although he said the site had been “bombarded” by such messages, Cable insisted that one of the government’s top priorities was to reduce the amount of regulation that small companies and start-up businesses face. But he warned companies: “Please don’t pretend this is easy.”

Bibby Consulting & Support understands that many regulations are essential to protect businesses and employees but also supports efforts to minimise the amount of complex legislation that companies have to abide by and which has been generated over the years.

Managing Director Michael Slade says: “Clearly, it is in everybody’s interest to have health and safety safeguards within businesses to ensure that all staff members are able to work in a safe environment. This is not in dispute.”

“However, it also needs to be recognised that there is a considerable amount of employment law regulation that does nothing to help businesses work at maximum efficiency and to expand as they become more successful. As long as rights are maintained, we consider the time and effort required to cut down on regulation to be a very worthwhile investment.

Unfortunately however recent reports state that the site currently appears to be used more by members of the public and consumer groups who are expressing a one-sided view that existing regulations should be maintained or more worryingly still, increased. We are strongly urging business leaders to add their own views and ensure that their voices are heard.”

For employment law specialists and health and safety advisors, consult Bibby Consulting & Support http://www.bibbycas.com

From 2012, changes to pensions law will affect all employers with at least one worker in the UK. This document is a summary of these changes, including what employers must do and how they might set about getting ready.

We have published a series of guidance that explains the new employer duties in detail and how they should be implemented. The guidance is available for download from our website: www.tpr.gov.uk/pensions-reform

The changes in a nutshell

Employers will need to:
• Automatically enrol certain workers into a pension scheme
• Make contributions on their workers’ behalf
• Register with The Pensions Regulator (‘the regulator’)
• Provide workers with certain information about

When are the changes happening?
The new employer duties will be introduced in stages over 4 years, starting in 2012. Each employer will be allocated a date from when the duties will first apply to them, known as their ‘staging date.’
This date is based on the number of people in an employer’s PAYE scheme. Employers with the largest numbers of workers in their PAYE schemes will have the earliest staging date.
Employers can check their provisional staging date on our website: www.tpr.gov.uk/staging
To allow some flexibility, employers can choose to bring forward their staging date, provided the regulator is informed. However, employers cannot choose a later date than the one they are allocated.
Finding out when the staging date is likely to be is the first thing an employer should do, so they can plan what they need to do to be ready in good time.

What will employers need to do?
• Assess their workforce
• Identify who to automAtically enrol
• Choose a pension scheme – i.e. National Employment Savings Trust – NEST Pension
• Register with the regulator
• Make contributions
• Process any opt-out notices
• Process opt-in or joining requests
• Avoid inducements and prohibited activity
• Keep accurate records
• Provide workers with information about changes

What should employers do now?

Employers should:
• Look up their provisional staging date at www.tpr.gov.uk/staging
• Plan for when they might need their pension scheme in place and take action if necessary – including planning when and how they will assess their workforce
• Budget for these changes
• Look out for further information and guidance from the regulator. This can be done by signing up to the regulator’s free news-by-email service www.tpr.gov.uk/news

A new set of family procedure rules will apply in England and Wales from the 6 April 2011.

In particular, the new set of family procedure rules effective from the 6 April 2011 will affect divorce and financial cases and extra care must always be taken where a family case has an international dimension to it.

One of the significant changes to the rule is that there is a requirement for any Applicant to first see a mediator to determine whether or not mediation is in fact suitable for the case. The difficulty is that where a case, in particular, involves European Union countries (except Denmark) then this could allow the other party i.e. the Respondent to receive advance notice of what is happening. He or she may then tactically try and claim jurisdiction in the EU country which best suits his/her case. Contacting the other party could therefore be fatal. The reason for this is that the financial outcome in the different countries could be significantly different.

All is not lost however as there are some exemptions available which could still allow a party to issue proceedings in England and Wales and therefore to claim jurisdiction in the usual way. There are mixed thoughts about this (often called the lis pendens rule) because it creates tactics and it can actually inflame a situation presently there is no real way round it because as I say to delay could be fatal where a case has an international element to it. In many none EU countries, some regard is given still as to who was first to start the proceedings and therefore it is arguable that the exemption from seeing a mediator should apply in all cases of possible foreign proceedings.

There is justifiable criticism of European Union policymakers who have created this “first to issue” rule in divorce proceedings or it can create what is often called “anti-settlement” and “anti-family life” problems. Whatever the rights and wrongs, extra care should always be taken where the case has some international dimension to it.
A divorce or separation can be a very difficult and stressful time. Not only does it affect the status of a relationship but it also has implications both in relation to the finances and any children.

Extra care must be taken where the case has an international element to it because there could be more than one country where the divorce could start. The financial outcomes in each country could be starkly different and specialist advice from a family law solicitor Cheshire must be taken in each country.
Legally, however, a divorce is a relatively straightforward procedure. There is one ground for a divorce: the marriage has irretrievably broken down.
There are five ways of showing this to a Court:
• Adultery
• Behaviour
• Desertion for more than two years
• Separation for two years or more with the other person’s consent
• Separation for five years or more without the other person’s consent

Cypher Digital Imaging Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of their latest service, digital wallpaper.

Ideal for restaurants, attractions, hotels, residential, holiday lets, service areas and retail, Cypher’s digital wallpaper is prepasted so needs no additional adhesive. It is so simple to use that the customer can fit it themselves or a commercial decorator can fit it. The digital wallpaper is PVC free and is printed using HP’s environmentally friendly Latex inks. Unlike solvent inks these are not harmful to the environment and have no odour, making it safe for any domestic or commercial applications. The ultra smooth finish and the latex base of the inks provide vivid colour graphics with high-definition detail.

The benefits of this new digital wallpaper compared with the older PVC based substrates are vast. As well as the environmental benefits of this new digital wallpaper, it also meets commercial wall covering standards and for indoor use, has a permanence of 10 years+. Should that length of permanence not be required, the digital wallpaper comes with a manufacturers warranty for clean removal. In terms of safety, the wallpaper is flame retardant so meets health and safety guidelines.

It was a colourful start to 2011 at the new Furmanite IT & Training Centre in Kendal. Furmanite commissioned a full colour digital wallpaper graphic for the new centre from Cypher. The graphic which is a very colourful montage of Furmanite workers undertaking various tasks is a huge 9.5m wide and just under 2.5m high. It was printed on the latest HP PVC-free wall paper using environmentally friendly 1.5m wide HP latex printer.

Calibration, basically involves the comparison of a measuring instrument, the Unit Under Test (UUT) to a Standard of known accuracy.

The standard comparison for calibration would ideally be more accurate than the UUT and have its own calibration certificate which can be traced back through an unbroken chain of calibrated standards to an appropriate standard held by a National Laboratory. In the UK, this would be the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).

UKAS Calibration is essentially calibration undertaken by a laboratory which has been independantly audited and subsequently accredited by UKAS to carry out the work.

What is UKAS?
UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) is the sole body recognised by HM Government for assessing and accrediting the competence of calibration and testing laboratories.

UKAS Accreditation, ISO/IEC17025 and ISO9001
Laboratories are accredited by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 which is the internationally recognised standard for the competence of calibration and testing laboratories.

The systems, people, their training, and technical capabilities of a UKAS accredited laboratory are regularly and thoroughly examined and tested by UKAS auditors, each of them specialists in their field. It is an expensive and time consuming process, but our ongoing accreditation and fulfilment of the requirements of ISO17025 means you can rest assured that we have the competence, impartiality and performance capability necessary to consistently deliver technically valid calibration results each and every time.

Accreditation to ISO17025 also means our quality management systems meet the principles of ISO9001. This is endorsed by three major international organisations’ the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the International Laboratory Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC), and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). Separate certification of an accredited laboratory to ISO9001 is therefore unnecessary for calibration activities.

Certification of a laboratory to ISO 9001 alone, relates only to the laboratory’s quality management systems, not the technical competence of the laboratory. A laboratory that is certified to ISO 9001 only, and is not accredited to ISO 17025 should not be considered an acceptable alternative to a UKAS laboratory.

Rubber seal and gasket manufacturer invests in new production equipment.

High performance rubber seals manufacturer, Precision Polymer Engineering (PPE), a Unit of IDEX Corp., has invested in new production equipment to meet growing demand for Endura seals by leading oil and gas companies around the world.

PPE specializes in standard and customised rubber seals for demanding applications in the oil and gas industry as well as semiconductor manufacture, chemical and food processing and pharmaceutical manufacture. Through a combination of innovative elastomer compounding, seal design expertise and rapid, precision manufacture, the company is able to meet customers’ most challenging rubber gaskets needs.

Increased Production Capacity
New moulding press equipment was specified by PPE manufacturing engineers and installed at the Blackburn, UK factory in March. In procuring the presses, one of the company’s objectives was to increase production efficiency by reducing set-up-times. This has been achieved by an innovative combination of equipment configuration using magnet platens, and computer control; together delivering a 40% increase in available Endura manufacturing capacity. To operate the new o rings and seals moulding presses, production staffing has been increased by 5%.

Defining Exceptional Customer Service Standards
As a result of this significant capital investment, PPE is able to continue to provide its customers with unrivalled rapid delivery times along with exceptional quality and, where needed, customised rubber seal and o ring design. The increased Endura production capacity is complemented by a high level of both pre-sales and post-sales technical support, ensuring PPE continues to set exceptional customer service standards.

Paul Gillyon, managing director at PPE, commented, “I am very pleased to be able to make this further investment in our manufacturing capabilities. As with all major capital investments, it is targeted at improving our operating efficiency as well as helping us serve our customers more effectively”.

PPE plans further investments later in 2011 to maintain its strong level of sales growth while still delivering excellent customer service.

Chlorine Monitors are used in many applications requiring the measurement of residual chlorine concentration for chlorine monitoring or residual chlorine dosing control.

A residual chlorine analyzer or meter has various applications including:

• Continuous chlorine monitoring
• Water treatment plant residual chlorine control
• Secondary chlorination free chlorine control
• Distribution monitoring for total residual chlorine
• Cooling tower chlorine monitoring and control
• Pasteuriser chlorine dosing control
• Seawater chlorination control
• Chlorine in seawater monitor

The membraned amperometric chlorine sensor is enhanced with a third, reference, electrode which eliminates zero drift. pH correction is often not required at all. (NB. These chlorine sensors are often known as polarographic chlorine sensors although this is a misuse of the word polarographic).

The chlorine sensor used by the Residual Total Chlorine Meter and the Residual Free Chlorine Monitors are both largely pH independent meaning that both chlorine analyzers are bufferless and reagentless. They both utilize amperometric chlorine sensors and both show remarkable sensitivity and stability. For those making a chlorine measurement at high pH (>pH 8.5) on variable pH water it is possible to provide pH compensation from either a pH sensor connected to the chlorine analyser or from an external pH meter.

The chlorine sensors work by separating the electrodes that perform the chlorine measurement from the sample, by a membrane. This membrane allows the free residual chlorine (HOCl and OCl-) or the Total Residual Chlorine (HOCl and OCl- plus chloramines) through the membrane. Inside the sensor the residual chlorine meets the electrolyte which is at a low pH. This converts the majority of the OCl- to HOCl. The HOCl is reduced at the gold working electrode and the current generated is proportional to the Free Chlorine or Total Chlorine present, and the chlorine analyzer gives a reading in chlorine ppm or mg/l.

This technique is the most advanced method of continuous chlorine measurement and has many benefits to the user including a very stable chlorine measurement and better chlorine dosing control.

In addition to residual chlorine measurement the free chlorine sensor determines the chlorine concentration and the chlorine analyzer can control the chlorine dosing using a variety of control algorithms including PID control.

The Residual Chlorine Monitor is bufferless and reagent free, meaning it has a low total cost of ownership and with maintenance intervals at 3 or even 6 months, the HaloSense bufferless Chlorine Monitor is fast becoming the instrument of choice for the engineer who wants the best chlorine monitor at the best price.

The HaloSense Free and Total Residual Chlorine Analyzers are equipped with process control options, datalogging, relay outputs, serial comms, (TCP, Ethernet, ModBus are available now with Profibus available soon). Remote Access of the chlorine monitors (including remote access to all control options) is available via the internet, and via a LAN. In fact the HaloSense range of chlorine analyzers has all the options you could want in a Chlorine Analyzer whilst maintaining a low cost and great value for money.

The starting point is to tell you that “conventional snowchains” (RUD, KWB), which wrap chain around the whole tyre, are not suitable for increasing numbers of vehicles, usually because they’d be too close to struts or brake pipes, or because there’s electronic sensing equipment which can’t cope with finding metal where there’s normally only rubber. You must therefore visit a snow chains/ snowchains database if you want to buy conventional snowchains and choose first your car, then your tyre size, and in many cases also your engine size. Some manufacturers don’t take this prudent view, so you’ll almost certainly be able to buy a set of chains “off the shelf” which will fit around your wheels. Our advice is to check your car handbook very carefully, because if there is a “No fit” for conventional snowchains there could be real danger and expense in fitting the chains and driving the car.

All the “other snowchain systems” (AutoSock, Farad SNOW, Maggi TRAK and Spikes-Spider) can be used on every vehicle, subject to finding a set of the appropriate size, even if the use of conventional snow chains is forbidden.

The Farad, Spikes-Spider and TRAK systems require you to have wheel nut adapters of the correct size for your car; you’ll find all the information you need on the snow chains/ snowchains database on roofbox.co.uk.

All the snow chains/snowchains are are sold in pairs, and need to be fitted to the driving wheels. Some people also fit them to the non driving wheels, which certainly improves all round stability, but is definitely not necessary. 4 x 4 drivers should fit snowchains to the front wheels unless we tell you which wheels to use – please check the snow chains database for fitting notes.

As a rule of thumb, traction control and anti-skid systems should be turned off when using tyre traction devices, except for AutoSock and Spikes-Spider systems. If you can’t easily turn off these systems, then it’s probably OK. Check your handbook!

View all the available options, together with prices and special offers, on the snow chains database. This contains well over 100,000 links, and they work very hard to keep it as up to date as they can. Please though (1) check your handbook and (2) fit the snowchains we supply ASAP after receiving them, just to check that they fit, and also to learn how to fit them.

Industrial Air Power Ltd is the authorised distributor for Ingersoll Rand Industrial Technologies products throughout Wales and the South West of England. The two companies have made a dramatic shift from being suppliers of equipment to providers of solutions. We are fully conversant with all aspects of air generation and equipped to carry out energy audits on any installed system, regardless of size or manufacturer.

A full system audit includes leak detection, measurement of energy consumption, and flow measurement including pressure, temperature and final air quality.

As utility rates continue to rise and firms continue to look to green initiatives, energy consumption has become a growing concern for manufacturers.

One of the largest energy users within a plant is the compressed air system. Energy recovery provides a cost-effective way for manufacturers to reduce their energy bills while simultaneously benefiting the environment by capturing the thermal energy created through the compression process and putting it to work. Where the heat produced from a compressor can be fully utilised, simple payback periods of less than two years are frequently achieved.

Having already worked with Carbon Trust on a variety of projects, Terram called on its expertise when faced with rising energy costs. The specialist manufacturer of geosynthetic materials, employing 95 staff at its manufacturing plant near Pontypool, worked with Industrial Air Power to eliminate energy inefficiencies and redesign and install a new air compressor system. The result was an industry best in terms of energy usage and savings of £202,000 per annum. It also produced:

* Energy savings of approximately 11.25 million kWh over five years
* Cost savings of approximately £1m in five years
* Emission savings of 7,390 tonnes CO2 in the same period
* Payback of approximately 24 months

David Roberts, control engineer at Terram Ltd, said: “The savings we are seeing now are unbelievable but just as important is the fact that we are reducing our carbon emissions and therefore benefiting the environment.”

Although Terram had already started to investigate the costs for new compressed air systems, it hadn’t looked at where, when, how much air was being used. Carbon Trust helped it identify this and used Industrial Air Power to design a system to meet its needs.

Having a tailor-made system installed in turn allowed Terram to capitalise on secondary savings such as heat recovery and compressed air leak reduction.

Ongoing monitoring of the fully automated system allows the savings to be quantified. Monitoring also ensures that the focus on savings is maintained and remains a high priority for Terram.

The new compressor system was located into the steam boiler house. This enabled Terram to recover the waste heat generated by the compressors and use this to raise the temperature of the water in the hot well, which feeds the boiler. Increased water temperature in turn reduces the amount of gas needed to generate steam.

The aggregated savings from the installation of the new system and implementation of the measures identified represented an 11.8 per cent reduction in the site’s energy consumption and overall a 38.7 per cent reduction in the electrical energy consumption directly associated with the generation of the compressed air.

An annual CO2 saving of 1,214 tonnes has been achieved plus an additional 264 tonnes from a reduction in gas usage due to the heat recovery process.

From monitoring the system, it was calculated that Terram was using on average 85m3/min of compressed air with an efficiency of 8kW/m/min, which equated to 7.2 million kWh per annum. By installing a new compressor set supplied by Industrial Air Power, it was calculated that the efficiency could be improved to 6kW/m3/min. Post-installation monitoring has proved that the new machinery provides an average efficiency of 5.8kW/m3/min – delivering significant savings. The gas savings are on top of this.

The benefits to Terram have been fourfold: a significant reduction in energy costs, the ability to protect plant integrity, reduced maintenance cost and the added benefit of reduced gas consumption from the increased water temperature in the steam boiler hot well.

Installing new Ingersoll Rand two stage fixed speed air compressors along with a Nirvana two stage trim compressor, fully automated via a control system provided Terram with primary energy savings. Secondary savings came as a result of the heat recovery process, lower maintenance costs and the leak reduction programme.

The exercise has been successful in achieving reductions of CO2 emissions and the overall costs of supplying the service of compressed air to the business.

A Carbon Trust Wales consultant worked together with Industrial Air Power and Terram engineers providing impartial, independent advice enabling the company to make an informed decision and deliver value for money. Carbon Trust independently validated the energy savings and confirmed that they exceeded Industrial Air Power’s initial projections.

Through our experience in carrying out hundreds of compressed air audits we have identified the majority of existing compressed air systems include one or more of these deadly sins. This will have and adverse affect on your reliability, productivity and energy consumption.

* System over-pressurisation resulting in increased artificial demand
* Excessive waste through air leakage
* False loading of compressors due to lack of system automation and volume
* Inefficiency caused by cycling fixed output compressors
* Excessive pressure drop

If you would like advice on calculating your savings potential and increasing your company’s profitability contact Industrial Air Power on 01656 658961, email sales@airpower.co.uk

In today’s harsh economic times, effective and dependable fire suppression within business critical areas such as data rooms remains essential, but securing it at the right price can be difficult. Ian Bartle examines some of the key challenges involved and explains what can be done to alleviate the pressure on those critical budgets.

It’s understandable that in all businesses, continuous examination of operating costs are routinely made. Within this, the cost of fire suppression is often considered to be a relatively high but necessary cost. However, there can be very few applications where the absolute reliability of operation of the automatic fire suppression equipment is more business critical than in a data room.

For instance, data rooms of any size will have an air conditioning system in place to control the temperature because of the tremendous amount of heat that’s generated on a continuous basis. Failure of the air conditioning system to function may lead to overheat situations placing stress on the equipment and components. This could cause an outbreak of fire with a resultant and devastating loss of all data within minutes. And don’t forget, we’re potentially talking here of data that’s taken many years to build.

So no question, data rooms need to be protected by a dependable automatic fire suppression system, but does the cost of the system have to give the financial director sleepless nights? The answer is a resounding no.

One thing that we all know is that high volumes of water and computers don’t sit happily together. That’s why for years now, chemical gaseous agents such as FM 200, Inert gas systems and now water mist have been employed to do the job of fire protection. They have performed the task of suppressing fires by physical cooling of the affected area or by decreasing the oxygen in the atmosphere to a level that no longer supports combustion. All utilise a system of high pressure pipework and nozzles to deliver the suppression medium into the risk area.

However, recent world wide shortages of raw materials have prompted dramatic increases in the cost of chemical gases, FM 200 in particular. This in turn has affected the cost of new fire system installations and that of recharge and service where gas needs to be replaced (up to 40% in some cases), making them far less competitive on price. This fact has forced buyers of fire suppression systems to widen their search for equally reliable but more cost effective alternatives.

As already described, Data Rooms need the optimum in automatic fire suppression and extinguishers as do other special areas such as network infrastructures, art galleries, museums, antique centres, and power generation plants to name just a few. The objective is always to save lives and property. But innovative fire protection can now do a whole lot more. Today it combines science and economics and matches these qualities to total effectiveness and reliability.

In the case of Data Room protection there is now a system that not only beats the performance of chemical and Inert gases, it also provides a superior, environmentally friendly fire suppressant. Not only that, the system known as Stat-X allows easier and more cost-effective installations for all these types of challenging applications.

The Stat-X family of automatic fire suppression systems is a second generation Condensed aerosol technology, manufactured to ISO 9001:2008 standards with many internationally recognised approvals and standards such as UL in the USA. It’s a patented potassium-based aerosol that’s ecologically safe, up to ten times more effective than any current halon alternative with zero ozone depletion and no global warming potential.

And if that’s not enough, the Stat-X application automatic fire suppression systems technology requires no pressure vessels, manifolds, nozzles or pipe work. All factors which result in significant installation and maintenance savings.

The right pallet racking system in a warehouse is paramount and each pallet racking requirement is different.

The pallet racking market has changed considerably, and has become somewhat commoditised and often price driven. This has lead to companies setting up as brokers for a wide range of pallet racks, manufactured in both the UK and overseas, including the Dexion pallet racking. This allows the pallet racking supply company to design warehouse racking systems to any budget or specification. Their professional, detailed understanding of system design and load capabilities are coupled with the best possible system price.

Pallet Racks come in a number of variants, basic details of which are included below. By analysing your operation and liaising directly with your fork lift supplier (or introducing a new one), recommendations can be made that’s best for you.

Wide Aisle Racking
Ideal for storing palletised and non-palletised goods.
Wide aisles allow full manoeuvrability of fork-lift trucks.
100% access to individual pallets.
Fully adjustable beam levels to suit varying pallet heights.
Can use conventional fork-lift trucks.
Narrow Aisle Racking
Offers the same flexibility found with wide aisle racking, but increases storage capacity by reducing aisle width and storing pallets to a greater height.
Allows access to individual pallets, whilst retaining full system adjustability.
Requires a specialist fork-truck but this can be a cost effective investment, offset by the added value of better access and use of space.

Push Back Pallet Racking Liverpool
Pallets are loaded in sequence onto sloping wheeled carriers running on steel channel supports. During loading, pallets are pushed back to utilise the full depth of the racking. Gravity pushes the next pallet to the front when one is removed.
Pallets are loaded and retrieved from one face only to optimise space.
Quick and easy access is by level, rather than by lane.
Provides good occupancy rates within a high-density system and a variety of pallet types can be stored together.
Conventional fork-lift trucks can be used.

Exhibition trailers are an extremely cost effective way of getting your message across should the exhibition opportunities be in various locations.

A brief description of some of the most popular sizes of exhibition trailer include one has 4 bi-fold doors to the near side, a wind out canopy overhead and clip on aluminium steps with slot in handrails to the full width of the opening. It is an eye catching unit once set up and the bi-fold doors can be used for display purposes or, with the addition of a large window to each door, can be kept closed in poor weather whilst maintaining a visual link between yourself and your customers. This exhibition trailer has a 3mt wide lift up canopy with a logo board to its leading edge and fold out aluminium steps with slot in handrails to the full width of the opening. It can be set up in minutes by a single person and as such is one of our most popular exhibition trailers. Being able to be set up by one person is a large plus point for smaller exhibition trailers.

Should a standard exhibition trailer not be to a customer’s exact requirement, a bespoke or special trailer can be designed and manufactured. All exhibition trailers, including any bespoke trailers, should be built on a robust, steel, fully galvanized chassis. The body is usually constructed from glass reinforced plastic panels which are tough and provide a smooth clean surface.

Exhibition and bespoke trailers are commissioned for use as public address trailers, market trailers, hot air balloon trailers, kiosks, vending trailers, mobile workshops and bespoke exhibition trailers.

A bespoke trailer can be tailored to give you exactly what you need whether its purpose be business or leisure. For example, market trailers that have cut set up times from over 4 hours to less than 10 minutes, balloon trailers that have made transporting, loading and un-loading the balloon quick and easy. Public address trailers are used by a number of companies covering all types of public assemblies from air shows to horse shows, race meetings to local fairs and carnivals. Bespoke trailers for use as mobile workshops and vending trailers have been used at major sporting events or to take a business on the road. This has helped target customers at markets or specific locations as well as reducing overheads and operating costs.

Larger and more expensive items often need more thought before purchasing. Items such as exhibition trailers for example are crucial to be purchased in the correct size, to perform in the right way and even down to size for storage facilities. Due to the nature of exhibitions, these kinds of events may happen every week or just once a year. The level of use of course dictates the amount that can be spent but in some cases, a large exhibition trailer may be required which would incur significant costs. Through the hiring of an exhibition trailer, the exact trailer can be used. Image is everything at exhibitions, events, advertising promotions and road shows. The exhibition trailer is often the first impression of the product or event.

The Carbon Trust estimates that for every kilo of natural resources consumed by reuse, 7 kilos of original materials are conserved.

At Clearance Solutions, we ensure that our house clearance and office clearance services are at the forefront of the efforts to get unwanted furniture and goods reused. We sell and donate as much as possible of everything we clear. This requires better planning, more dedication, labour and effort, but we think it’s worth it, and so do many of our clients.

Did you know that it takes 1000 times more carbon dioxide to produce a new piece of furniture than to deliver and install a used one?

Each household in the UK has on average 750kg of furniture (three quarters of a ton). Think of the huge reduction in carbon dioxide that could be achieved if even 10% of this furniture was reused!
Recycling

When we carry out our house clearance and office clearance work, items that simply cannot be reused (perhaps broken / damaged / faulty) are recycled. The waste is sorted into separate recycling streams (paper, metal, glass) at Waste Transfer Stations (tips). This enables up to 75% of these materials to be recycled. Whilst recycling is less efficient in terms of CO2 than reuse, it preserves virgin resources. So there is a far smaller environmental footprint when recycled materials are used in the manufacturing process.
The way that we do it

All Licensed Waste Carriers transport waste to Waste Transfer Stations (WTS), who then recycle some and landfill the rest. However, if the waste is not pre sorted by the carrier into different waste streams, the WTS will send much more of that waste to landfill. The reason is simple. Responsible WTS have separate areas to deposit recyclables such paper, metal, plastic, and biomass. Waste that contains mixtures of these materials has to be deposited in a general waste area. Only 40% of this general waste gets recycled compared to 85% in the specific materials areas. We presort the waste to achieve a far higher recycling rate than would otherwise be the case.

Mail forwarding is becoming more and more common both for business and domestic uses.

Even though mail and parcel forwarding has been available in the United Kingdom for some years, most notably offered by Royal Mail, for business and domestic use in the form of “Mail Redirection”. With more and more businesses either moving premises or having operations in other countries, mail forwarding is now offered by other companies and to suit more specific requirements.

Mail forwarding is used for many different purposes but it is the onset of internet that has created the need for more mail forwarding options. Internet based businesses for example who wish to have a valid postal address but who do not have business premises and that do not wish to have a PO Box address. Purchasing goods online from abroad is another reason why both business and domestic consumers would require a mail forwarding address. A parcel forwarding company will set up an address, in the United States for example, where goods purchased will get sent to you and then they will organise the shipping of the goods back to the United Kingdom. By ordering goods in such a way, shipping costs can be greatly cut down.

The latest in mail forwarding in the UK is an international mail and parcel forwarding service offering consumers and businesses the advantage of a hassle free UK postal address from which they can ship anywhere in the world. A UK mail forwarding address also enables overseas businesses to have a presence in the United Kingdom. A mail and parcel forwarding service streamlines businesses and enables even more efficiency when carrying out operations overseas and internationally.

Health and Safety shouldn’t interrupt how you do business, but by making your business safer you can reduce your insurance and absence costs too.

Fire Risk Assessments
The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (2005)
40% of businesses never recover from the effects of a major fire with the loss of key staff due to temporary closure. The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (2005) now requires you to manage the risk of fire in your organisation, but do you really know what is expected of you? The first hurdle to overcome is to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment; without one, your insurance company will refuse cover in the event that you make a claim. But for many businesses carrying out their own Fire Risk Assessment isn’t practical unless they have dedicated Health and Safety teams as well as guidance from health and safety advisors.

COSHH 2004 (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations
How the regulations affect your business
The COSHH Regulations require employers to manage the risk to staff and others who may be exposed to hazardous substances in the workplace.

CoSHH Regulations
There are a wide range of issues that employers are required to address. Without specialist, up-to-the-minute knowledge, it is very difficult to know where to start. A health and safety advisor will make sure your business ticks all the legal boxes, keeping your workplace secure and your workforce safe.

CoSHH Assessments
Health and safety advisors conduct COSHH compliant risk assessments, taking into account the hazardous properties of a substance and recommending working practices that ensure staff are protected against harmful exposure – before the inevitable ‘knock on the door’.

The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)
Management of Health Safety at Work Regulations (1999)
The ramifications of non-compliance in your workplace can be significant, limiting business operations and having significant bottom line impact – not to mention the worse case scenario incumbent in the new Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act…

Risk Assessments 1999
An essential part of Risk Management
Risk Assessments are an integral part in the process of managing the risks incumbent in any business activity. Unfortunately, often because of a lack of time and resource, risk assessments in most businesses are inadequate. A good-quality risk assessment should form the basis of any safe work procedure; but if you are not a
Health and Safety specialist, where do you start?
Risk assessment training and review – A health and safety advisors training services can address this for you, bringing your staff up to speed with current legislation.

Health & Safety in your Workplace
The HSE website advises: “It is an employer’s duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees, and other people who might be affected by their business”, and that “the employer must do whatever is reasonably practicable to achieve this.”
Good management of workplace safety represents not only good business practice, but also it can improve both performance of staff and the business in general. Unfortunately whilst complying and keeping pace with statutory change is extremely time consuming – especially given the growth of the compensation culture – it is essential to ensure you are not left exposed in the event of an accident or injury in your workplace.

When it comes to commercial EPCs, North West Energy consulting offer a quick turnaround and a cost effective survey system using the latest software. They will show you how to use the information embedded within your Energy Assessment to benefit your business and save costs. This is something most of our competitors rarely do. By implementing recommendations, and managing resources wisely, you may be able to recover the cost of the EPC within months. Their fees are calculated on an individual basis, because all buildings vary in complexity and in the Heating and Ventilation systems in use. You can save on fees if you can provide accurate floor plans, with as much construction detail as possible, and by providing manufacturers data on your heating and ventilation systems. North West Energy Consulting are accredited by the BRE (Building Research Establishment), who ensure the standards are maintained and that they undergo ongoing continuing Professional Development and training. They also have access to their vast research library and receive updates on all new building technologies. They are also registered with the Carbon Trust and Energy Saving Trust, and have access to their resources.

Llite is a Private Limited organisation based in New Cleveland Street Hull with further sites in North and North East Lincolnshire and Sheffield. Established in 2001, Llite was developed in response to local people not accessing local jobs in construction and allied trades. People from out of town were being brought in by the local construction companies. Llite wanted to turn that around so that local construction jobs were accessible to local people and Llite would help to supply learners with the skills and resources to achieve this.

Llite have since developed a workforce of 45, and are now the largest deliverer of construction training in Sheffield, Hull and Scunthorpe working with 1,200 clients per annum. Despite their growth, Llite are as passionate about developing local people and enabling them to achieve their potential as they were when first established.

James Epworth, Strategy Director of Llite said “The Construction Industry is a very good career option. For local unemployed people enrolling with Llite, learners will have the potential to develop skills in a range of Construction Industry roles. But it doesn’t stop there; we also help learners to find a job through our employability support services”.

Llite have an aftercare service which means once the learner has entered employment, they can still contact Llite to resolve any issues they may have. James continued “the aftercare service is proving to be a valuable resource to learners. If they feel they need further skill development in the future or any help or advice, then we have the facilities and resources to provide this”.

Learners enrolling with Llite will develop skills in the following trade areas:

• Bricklaying
• Plastering
• Joinery
• Plumbing
• General Construction Work
• Painting and Decorating

Llite works with a number of stakeholders including local colleges, Jobcentre +, LSC and HLC to offer these courses to local people. Llite assess each learner on their own merits, and their learning progression is very much tailored towards that individual. If the learner needs more practical skills, a qualification or if the learner has the skills but can’t get into employment – then Llite can offer them a service that best suits their needs. If the individual doesn’t have a CSCS card for example (a passport for construction sites) then Llite will make sure they have the skills to obtain one. James Epworth continued “This (CSCS card) is great for anybody who may have been made redundant in the Construction Industry fields. Obtaining this passport along with employability sessions can greatly enhance someone’s employment prospects”.

Llites Employability Quest teams includes life coaches, basic skills tutors and recruiters. They aim to develop learner’s confidence through learning, activities and events which encourage learners to develop achievable career goals.

In January 2007 Llite obtained a Grade 1 (outstanding) Adult Learning Inspection (OFSTED). It is a major achievement and one Llite is very proud of. Further achievements in Matrix and Investor in People awards were coupled with praise of how well Llite deliver and integrate Basic Skills into Construction training programmes.

HLC have recently awarded an Adult Engagement contract to Llite whose staff have also benefited from HLC services by attending a Level 3 IAG course.

Looking towards Llites future plans James said “Key flexible New Deal contracts are essential to sustain Llite. We are hoping to expand further into North East and North Lincs and develop programmes in conjunction with local schools and colleges. We hope to be further involved in the regeneration of Hull, building schools for the future, and supplying labour from programmes run here at Llite”.

The leading North Devon caravan site, Stowford Farm Meadows are pleased to announce the completion of their recently developed caravan sales centre.

The continuing development of the whole Stowford Farm Meadows site has made staff and owner Andrew Noall very proud of their family owned and run caravan and camping park. The site having been in the family for generations and as a touring park since 1978.

The redevelopment of the caravan sale centre has been a result of the growth in the caravan sales side of this award winning touring caravan and camping facility in North Devon. Stowford supply new Elddis caravans and Bailey caravans and always have a large stock of quality used touring caravans for sale.

Back in 2003 Devon was voted as the best place to live in England. Whilst this is great news for Devon there are a couple of down sides. Firstly, there is a shortage of properties available for sale and secondly, house prices in Devon have soared with the increases being among the highest in the country.

To make matters worse there is a lot of anger amongst local residents of Devon because high demand and high prices of those properties that are available to buy are pricing them out of the market. In parts of North Devon, more than four in every ten properties is a second home, with many being owned by people living in other parts of the country, particularly London and the South East.

For those interested in buying either second homes in Devon, or Devon Holiday homes, but are struggling to find available properties within their budget, then an alternative would be to consider luxury lodge. There are a lot of advantages to choosing Devon lodges including the affordable price tag, the high quality finish and luxury furnishings.

These days holiday lodges come with better specifications than a lot of houses with broadband, sky TV, spacious plots, large decked areas, paved courtyards and all year round holiday use. Better still on some of the top Devon resorts you will also be able to make use of the onsite facilities such as heated indoor swimming pools, golf courses and equestrian centres.

You will also have peace of mind about the security of your home as the resort will provide a range of security and maintenance services including a private access controlled entrance to ensure your investment is protected all year round. In keeping with such a luxury investment, you will not be responsible for chores such as grass cutting and ground care around your lodge. These tasks will all be taken care of for you so that you are free to relax and make the best of your holiday time.

There are various other forms of mailing solutions for the office that help save both time and money.

Mail and post room solutions for offices and businesses aid in the streamlining of mailing tasks. Even though billions of emails are sent each day in the world, conventional post has actually increased. The process of mailings letters is a time consuming job even once printed out, the letter must be folded, inserted into the envelope, weighed, franked or stamped and then posted.

Luckily there are mailing solutions available to help save time which in turn, equates to saving money. The mailing solutions below offer a cost effective way of gaining efficiency in the post room. Another important factor is size. Most businesses unfortunately do not have endless space for machinery but these modern machines are compact. There are also different models available for the different levels of usage. For example, the usage of a home based business would be far less than a solicitor’s office of 30 people.

And time saving isn’t just the only gain when using specialized mailing equipment. Folding machines give a perfect fold every time making the letter look professional. A franking machine’s imprint also adds to the professional look of a letter and enables the company logo to be included.

Folding and Inserting Machines
As we all know in this current economic climate we have to work that little bit harder (and smarter) to get new business or build on relationships with existing customers. So, every opportunity we have to present ourselves or get in front of customers must be taken. Below are a couple of tips which are quite simple, yet effective by using a folding inserting machine in an office or mailing room. Don’t worry if you don’t mail in large volumes, you can get a folding and inserting machine that’s cost effective for just a few 100 items per week.

1) A folder and inserter is an integral part of any mailing room, you’ll save time and money just by having one
2) You can include a mail piece with existing mail such as invoices or statements advertising your other services/goods. This is made really easy with ones of these machines.
3) Once you have your machine it can be used for sending out mail shots, newsletters or periodicals.
4) Combine it with a franking machine and the savings on your post will also add up

What does a folding and inserting machine do?
Its simple, it takes a pile of letters or mailers, folds them up in the required format and then inserts them into the envelope for you. Easy! The type of machine you will need will mainly depend on the volume of your mail.

Folding Machines
These can greatly reduce the number of hours spent folding letters, brochures, flyers, invoices or any number of other documents.
Quick and easy to use, a paper folding machine can produce a variety of different folds to accommodate multiple needs. Whether you need the occasional batch of letters folded or have mass mailings to send out. Selecting the appropriate piece of equipment depends on many factors, including the volume and frequency of use, the type of fold and type of paper you need.

Letter openers
Moving incoming mail faster to the people who are waiting to deal with it means benefits to both your business and your customers:
• Incoming payments can be processed and banked quicker; improving cash flow
• Customer orders can be processed faster
Any queries or complaints can be dealt with sooner – so your business relationships aren’t damaged by unnecessary delays.

A new online gift retailer, Flamingo Gifts, was recently launched.

Operating from beautiful Kendal in Cumbria, Flamingo Gifts is an online shop stocking everything gift related. Unique, novelty and unsual gifts are what set Flamingo Gifts apart from the rest with items sourced worldwide. Having been 2 years in development, Flamingo Gifts are now ready to take the gift industry by storm after thoroughly investigating the market. Through being an online retailer, they are able to stock a huge range of goods. Their ecommerce website is easy to use and even enables customers to get gift ideas in the form of the Flamingo Gifts Randomizer function.

The brainchild behind Flamingo Gifts, Laura Carradice explains their concept “Our mission is simple, to provide amazing gifts to you at a great price and quickly, we are always on the lookout for new and interesting novelty gifts, birthday gifts and totally unique gifts to add to our Aladdin’s cave of treasures. We search everywhere to find the best gifts for the best budget! Whoever you’re looking to spoil, or for whatever occasion may it be Birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, Valentines Gifts or Christening gifts. We are sure you’ll find something you love! ”

According to the Giftware Association, the gift industry is worth an estimated £10 billion per year. This is made up of various sectors such as traditional gifts, design led gifts and cards and gift wrap. Something out of the ordinary, something with just that little bit more thought is becoming increasingly more difficult to find. The days of large, expensive gifts have had their day. A smaller quirky, original and unique item carries far more sentiment.

Dredging is required for various reasons including environmental, commercial and industrial uses.

Environmentally, examples of the use of dredging are to clear waterways also to collect sand in order to repair coastal erosion. Industrial and commercial uses dredging are for example the collection of materials used in concrete production and the dredging for valuable trace substances.

Dredging has become an essential operation in process of flood prevention through increasing an area’s capacity for holding or carrying water away.

Dredging requires not only the correct craft but also the correct dredging equipment which is mainly the dredging bucket. Each type of dredging project requires a different type of bucket as each location and material required to be dredged is different.

Dredging buckets are made by the process of the fabrication of steel through welding. They are either constructed in a workshop or onsite depending on the nature of the usage and location. Dredging buckets can range from 3m3 to 25m3. The first process is to design the bucket using CAD software and then the drawing service. It is these critical initial stages that enable the bucket to be fabricated.

The materials used in the construction of dredge buckets, excavator buckets and mining buckets are highly sophisticated. The steel is high strength and abrasion resistant with tungsten or chromium carbide wear protection systems. Each bucket is ESCO wear resistant encompassing their protection systems and are bushed and line bored.

As mining, excavation and dredging buckets are often used in challenging and demanding situations, it is important to keep on top of refurbishment. A professional dredge bucket manufacturer should also offer the service of repair and refurbishment.

The refurbishment and repair of mining and dredging buckets is as skilled a job as manufacturing. The welding and fabrication processes are as complex and so a fully equipped workshop is required with a lifting capacity in the region of 15 tonnes. The welding should be to ASMA 9 standard or higher with a mobile line boring facility. Once the welding and fabrication has been completed the process of the abrasion resistant and steel plate coatings can be implemented.

Cable assembly is required in a variety of situations and for a variety of uses.

The modern world is completely a wired world. Various types of wires and cables are used to construct all the machines and heavy equipment which are considered as modern engineering marvels. Even the residential or commercial multistorey buildings rely heavily on the wiring and complex cable assemblies used in the access control, electricity supply and communication systems.

It is not wrong to say that the modern world is dependent on wires and cables for transporting the energy (electrical or electronic) and magnetic waves (sound and data) from one place to another. This is the backbone of the all-round development that we experience these days. Can people imagine how tough and complex the cabling system inside a multistory or a jumbo jet is? Of course not, most of them are unaware of the complexity involved in the process.

However, these tasks are performed with much ease and simplicity. Thanks to cable assembly and wiring harness providers, who make life easy by encapsulating the intricacies behind making of these innovative and most usable plug and play products. They just make the tough and complex task of all types of wiring as easy as nothing.

Cable assembly providers are among the major contributors in constructing a safer and more organized world. Without their help, the automation of anything was impossible. Most of the modern industries like automobiles, heavy engineering, and security mechanism is based on different types of custom made wiring harnesses and cable assemblies.

Apart from these complex examples, people can witness several applications of cable assemblies in their everyday life. They are almost everywhere. For example, some most common elements that we see every day in our modern life like Computers, Telephone, Power Supply, Batteries, Lifts, and Medical Equipment are strictly dependent on cable assemblies.

In summary, it is not possible for every common man to judge the complex engineering, tough quality processes, and series of manual and automatic checks performed during the manufacturing of different standard or custom cable assemblies and wiring harnesses, but everybody can understand their impact on modern lifestyle. It is almost impossible for anybody to imagine a comfortable and easy lifestyle without using any of the aforementioned equipment or automated systems.

All indoor and outdoor pools eventually need updating and renovating to return them to their former glory. The key is to find a pool refurbishment company that has the expertise to embrace new developments in the industry and the latest state of the art technology to deliver a renovation that will last for many years to come.

Swimming pool refurbishment is often a more involved and complex procedure than building the same swimming pool from scratch due to the nature of the original construction process and the type of filtration system that is currently installed. You should always choose a refurbishment company with many years experience.

There are many aspects of pool renovation ranging from basic cleaning to replacing mosaic glass or ceramic tiles and grout through to a total redesign of the shape of the pool and steps. Beyond the pool itself you may like to alter or build other facilities such as changing rooms, spas, steam rooms, wet rooms and shower rooms.

There are really five main steps to successful pool refurbishment, as follows:

Initial Consultation – You can either do this over the telephone or ask a representative to come and meet you at your site. A follow up site visit is essential for measurements and photographs ready for the preliminary proposal of your renovation.

Clean – Having chosen your preferred renovation specialist the next step is to empty the water out of the pool and remove the old coping stones, tiles and loose plaster before preparing the area ready to tile.

Screed / Render – The area should be fully waterproofed using epoxy resin and chemical resistant paints.

Tiling – This is when the whole process really starts to take shape. Once all the tiles are in place the whole area should be acid washed and grouted.

Water – Now you can add the water and it is ready for use.
